Websites aren’t dead. But their job has changed

Why Websites are Becoming Proof Points, not Starting Points

Most companies are still building websites like it’s 2015. Drive traffic, explain everything, convert visitors. That model no longer matches how people behave.

Today, people don’t discover brands on websites. They arrive already shaped by AI summaries, social proof, peer signals, search results, a dozen fragmented micro-decisions.

By the time someone lands on your homepage, the decision has usually started elsewhere.

So what is a website now? Not a starting point. A validation layer.

It no longer has to do everything. It has to do one thing very well: confirm a belief that’s already forming.

That changes the job completely. Your website isn’t there to convince from scratch, tell your full story, or carry the entire funnel. It’s there to remove doubt, reinforce clarity, prove credibility, and make the decision easy. If it can’t do that in seconds, it’s working too hard, and too late.

AI didn’t kill websites. It repositioned them. When AI can summarise your category in a single prompt, your site stops being the entry point. It becomes the proof point. Not “why us?”, but “confirm what you already suspect.”

The real shift is in the question you ask. Stop asking how to get more people to your website. Start asking what happens before they ever get there. That’s where decisions are now forming.

Websites aren’t less important. They’re just later in the journey. The brands that see this early won’t just redesign their sites. They’ll redesign how they think about growth.

Curious where your site sits in that journey, entry point or proof point? Drop a comment with your homepage and we’ll share one thing we’d change to make it work harder at the validation stage.
