Your Website Has Two Jobs Now

Built for AI. Designed for People.

For years, a good website had one job: convince the person looking at it. That’s no longer the whole brief. A growing share of searches never end in a click at all, because AI is answering the question before anyone reaches a site. So the first audience your website talks to now is often a machine, not a person.

That doesn’t make websites pointless. It changes what they’re for. A site now has to do two jobs at once: be clear enough for AI systems to read, trust, and reference, and be good enough that a human who does land there actually wants to stay.

The first job is about structure. Content that answers the actual question directly, instead of burying it under three paragraphs of brand preamble. Clean, well organised information that a system can parse without guessing. Get this right and the payoff is real: being the source AI cites isn’t a vanity metric, it’s a channel that increasingly outperforms plain search traffic.

The second job is about everything AI can’t do. By the time someone reaches your site, the basic facts are often already answered elsewhere. What’s left is the part only a real experience can deliver: something that feels built for them specifically, not for a generic visitor. A tool, a calculator, a story, a piece of craft that makes the visit feel worth having.

Most businesses are still set up to do one of these well. Fewer are set up to do both, which is exactly where the advantage sits right now.

If you’re not sure whether your website is built for machines, for people, or for neither, that’s a conversation worth having.

Get in touch and we’ll walk through where the gaps are.
